BREAKING NEWS: Is Abby Really a BOY?!?

Oh my goodness...I'll have a Bump Report for you later on in the day, but I just got back from my 5 month doctor's appointment and let me tell you something, I walked out of there quite confused!!!

Everything's fine, so don't worry - the baby's heartbeat is in the 150 bpm range...I'm healthy and growing at an appropriate rate (gaining 3 pounds since my last appointment)...and all the results have come back as well as they possibly could...BUT...

And this is a big BUT...

My Doctor, bless her heart, came in and told me that she reviewed all the info from my 18 week ultrasound (when we learned that Squid is an Abigail).  Then we proceeded to have the following conversation...

Doctor: "And they told you what you're having???"

Me: "Yep!  It's a girl!"

Doctor (with a confused expression): "Hmm...that's interesting because the documentation here says it's a boy."

***And NO, this is NOT a joke***

Me (with a more confused expression, slight panic kicking in, and uncontrollable laughter masking my confusion): "Really?"

Doctor (nonchalantly):
"Well, sometimes they write down the wrong information."

Me (flabbergasted, but keeping the following thought to myself):
Well, that's just a wonderful thing for them to mess up on...

And that's when I really started cracking up...I mean, come on.  Here we are thinking there's a little Abigail growing in my belly...when it could really be a little Boy?!?  We've announced it to our family and friends, we've already been gifted pink clothes and stuffed animals, we've been referring to 'it' as Abby...and the list goes on...

And for all we know (as of 9:30am today), it could be a BOY...

So for now it's a waiting game - apparently my Doctor's assistant will be calling me later on today once they've double checked with the hospital.  I'll obviously be anxiously awaiting that phone call...and once I hear something, I'll keep you all posted.

Until then, let's just stick with calling the little baby Squid...I don't think it needs to be any more confused than it already is!!!  My hunch is that it's still a girl...but now I'm just not sure if I'll be able to trust the "results."

Have you heard of similar stories!?!  Please share them (it'll make me feel MUCH better!!!)!

  2. I've had 4 and they've always been right, but I never quite believed it until they were born. I'm so glad you could laugh! :)

  3. Oh my, well I don't know if this is a help or not, but my parents were told I was to be a boy up until the minute I was born. My mom's first reaction "Um, he's missing something." So go with your gut and we'll all pray for a healthy Squid no matter what the name is!

  6. I am sure it is much easier to just make a mistake on what they write than what they tell you during the ultrasound. Did you get to see any private parts??

  7. Nina, I totally agree...and the doctor's said it was kind of hard to tell because the baby had its legs crossed most of the time...that being said, I think it eventually uncrossed them. Man alive...waiting!!! :)

  8. Hahaha oh my goodness! I can imagine ur anxiousness right now! I've heard of people expeccting one gender and when the baby is born it being the opposite. Oh man, ur intuition may be right after all!
