The Bump Report: Week 39

It's hard to believe I finally get to say this, but we're officially ONE WEEK from little miss Abigail's due date...

And since quite a few people have been asking me recently, I thought I'd remind everyone - her official due date is January 27th, 2011.

We're both hoping that she arrives ON her due date (though after doing my research I learned that only 5% of babies actually arrive on their assigned due dates)- why?

Well, 27 is a significant number for us...

- 27 is Travis' Favorite Number
- We found out we were Pregnant on the 27th (May 27th, 2010)
- We got Married on the 27th (March 27th, 2010)
- Our First Date was on the 27th (March 27th, 2008)
- Abigail's assigned Due Date is the 27th (January 27th, 2011)

We've been doing our best to explain to Abby how great it would be if she made her appearance on the 27th, so we'll see how much she's been listening to Mommy and Daddy... :)   That'll be her first test...

A few other fun items (and one NOT SO FUN ITEM):

- I'm 2cm dilated
- The nursery is all set up
- Mommy and Daddy are having date night tonight while we still can
- Today is my last day of work in the office
- I've been told I'm not allowed to attend my best friend's wedding....more on that later

In baby news, Abigail is still the size of a Watermelon and her brain is developing at a rapid rate...her skin is beginning to look more and more baby like (apparently a nice pale shade...and being that she's coming from the two of us, I have a feeling she'll be SUPER pale...like, Casper pale).

At this point, I could go into labor at any time...all we have left to do is pack the bag for the Hospital!

Last but not least, Travis left for work before I was ready for photos today so I had to take my own...here we are at 39 weeks!!!

The Bump Report: Week 38

I feel like a broken record in saying this, but it's hard to believe little miss Abigail is due TWO WEEKS from today...we are SO excited!

According to The Bump, she's still the size of a Watermelon and she's already in position to make her big debut - we didn't learn anything new at our appointment this week but the Doctor did say, "I have a feeling we'll be seeing you next week!"  AKA - you're not going into labor any time soon...

But that's good - we want her to cook in my belly as long as possible (well, up until her due date that is - then we'd like for her to come out!).

Here are a couple pictures and if you missed yesterday's very special post, go see what 7x7xDaddy had to say {CLICK HERE}!!!

PS - the initials should be self explanitory, but they're my arts and crafts project for the week...they were originally white and now they're obviously black...soon, however, they'll have pink polka dots - wish me luck!

The Bump Report: Week 37

No bump pictures this week.

I apologize.

But I have been on my death bead (aka - the couch...and that's also a bit of an exaggeration because I'm not actually dying, I'm just very sick).

To be honest, the thought of standing up to get a picture of my belly taken is not high on my list of priorities...I'm using ALL the energy I do have to work from home, respond to emails, and suck on cough drops (which are doctor approved during pregnancy).

Fun fact?

I haven't been sick in nearly 3 years (I measure this on how long I've been with Travis - I literally have not been sick...until now...since I met him).  Why now?  Who knows...but it's not fun...and poor little Abigail is probably wondering what on earth Mommy is doing each time I cough or sneeze.

All I'm praying for is that I heal up nice and quick over the weekend - which, of course, just happens to be our Babymoon weekend...another reason why this is a great time to be sick - but I want nothing more than to be 100% healthy when this little bundle of joy arrives.

But enough about being sick!!!

Our Doctor's appointment on Wednesday was great - Abby is ~6.5 pounds and I'm already 1.5 cm dilated - exciting stuff!  My body is preparing for the big day!!!

Abigail is also the size of a Watermelon now...growing more and more every day!

And since I don't have a bump report pic for you this week, I'll include this one...a special one of me and my baby girl...

Thanks for all the healthy thoughts!!!

The Bump Report: Week 36

I may be taking the week off from blogging, but I couldn't miss a Bump Report!

At 36 weeks, all I can say is that Travis and I are getting more excited every day to meet little miss Abigail...she is still moving around like a maniac and it feels so reassuring to know that she's in there doing so well!

Sounds like the last thing to fully mature are Abby's lungs, so we'll wait patiently for that to happen.

In the meantime, we'll continue prepping for her arrival!  Here are a few pics from this evening...

Ohhh and in SUPER exciting news, my Baby Shower is on Saturday - WOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and I have BANGS now...in case you couldn't tell...

The Bump Report: Week 35

This is 7x7xMommy...Christmas Edition!

I'm going to keep this one short and sweet...we're officially over 35 weeks along in this Pregnancy.

According to The Bump (and the Doctor as of our appointment on Wednesday), Abby's head is currently located directly on my bladder.  I am literally in the bathroom every 15-30 minutes (it probably doesn't help that I drink so much water).  It'll be worth it though, right!

The best part is that Abby is getting into position to make her journey into the world.

Here are a couple (festive) pictures from the week!

The Bump Report: Week 34

Yet again, we didn't find time to take pictures last night...luckily, I have a picture from the weekend that's almost like a Bump Report photo (just a much nicer one!)...

Week 34
With 6 weeks to go (more or less), we have zero complaints.  I've still been feeling superb (knock on wood it stays that way), we've been good parents-to-be and have attended a Childbirth Preparation class and a Newborn Parenting class through CPMC (and we have our final class - Breast Feeding - on Sunday morning), and we even picked up our stroller and car seat this past weekend (both still in their boxes taking up space in our kitchen).

Abby is feeling bigger and just as active as always, this week measuring in as a Honeydew (again).

Here's a fun fact from The Bump (though I'm not sure "fun" is the best adjective to describe it): "She now urinates about one pint per day."  Lovely...

In more exciting news, she "can recognize and react to simple songs...time to start practicing your lullabies! In fact, baby will recognize frequently sung tunes after birth and probably find them soothing."

Maybe I should play a little less Rihanna and a few more Lullabies when I'm getting ready in the morning...

Stay tuned for next week's Bump Report!

The Bump Report: Week 33

We didn't take photos last night (what slackers!), but we did take Bump pictures over the weekend while cutting down my parent's Christmas Tree (because who doesn't like to show off their pregnant bellies in the rain while hunting for Christmas trees?!?).

Yes, I admit we're a bit crazy...but that's what makes us so "special," right?

Anyway, we're 33 weeks into this whole process and we're getting more and more excited to meet Abby...and I think she's getting more and more excited to meet us (or at least exit the womb) based on the amount she lovingly punches, kicks and rolls around...I know I've said this before, but she is one active baby!

According to The Bump's latest email update, she is now the size of a Honeydew and she may grow up to a full inch this week alone.  Incredible!  I'm not really sure where she's going to fit, so I have a feeling I should be diligent about applying my Mother's Special Blend to assist in the smooth growth of my ever-expanding belly!

Enjoy some pictures from Week 33...

Also, be sure to stay tuned for tomorrow's post where I'll be unveiling a bit more of Abby's Nursery!

The Bump Report: Week 32

Ho Ho Hooooo!!!

If you haven't noticed yet, I'm kind of into the whole holiday thing. Thanksgiving...Christmas...there's just nothing like this time of year!

Gosh, I'm even feeling more and more like Santa Claus every day with my ever expanding belly.  Cookies and milk are even sounding more appealing as I approach the final months of pregnancy.  It may be in my head, but I'm soaking this up...might as well, right?

I have to be honest - I'm LOVING that I'm getting bigger and bigger during the holiday season.  It feels so appropriate.  I get to bundle up in lots of layers, eat yummy holiday food and candies, and feel extra jolly in the process. No complaints here!

In Abigail news, she's getting bigger every day...it's pretty cool.  She's approximately 4 pounds now and is still a Squash.  Apparently this is around the time when I could start feeling Braxton Hick contractions - aka "practice" contractions...basically your body's way of prepping for the real deal - but I can't report anything of the sort...yet!

Here are a couple pictures of Week 32!

The Bump Report: Week 31

First of all, Happy belated Thanksgiving!

I had the best of intentions to post yesterday (as Thursdays are my official "Bump Report" day), but as you can probably expect I got a little distracted by all things food, family and festivity...

And I am NOT complaining...it was all absolutely lovely!

We did, however, manage to step outside onto my in-law's lovely deck in El Dorado Hills for a quick Bump Report photo shoot.

Before I post the pictures, you should know that Abby is still the size of a Squash (apparently closing in on 3 pounds), and she's going through major brain and nerve development these days...maybe that explains all the movement?

Or maybe it was all the Turkey and delicious food we consumed yesterday...

Either way, she's a VERY active baby and we can't wait to meet her!

The Bump Report: Week 30

I'm officially 3/4 of the way there...WOOHOO!!!

Week 30
I must say...TUMS have been my best friend lately.  There's a bottle that permanently resides on my nightstand. I never thought it would be this bad, but my heartburn has been BRUTAL lately.

No matter what I eat at night, the moment I lay down to sleep, a burning flame of horror creeps up my throat and I'm forced to sit up, chew some TUMS, and wait for relief to come.  Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't.

I look forward to the day when I get to put the bottle of TUMS back in the medicine cabinet where it belongs (if any of its contents remain, that is).

Until then, I'll keep them nearby.

In Abby news, she's still the size of a Squash!  A 3 pound Squash.  Gooooo Abby!  And apparently her brain is doing quite a bit of developing.  Is that why my brain has been so scattered lately?!?  Is she stealing my brain power?  It surely feels like it...

And if that's the case, I'm okay with it.  The smarter she is, the better, right!?!

Happy 30 Weeks, Abby...keep growing!

The Bump Report: Week 29

This week was a bit of a challenge...my photographer wasn't around when I needed him (he mentioned something about "real work" so I wasn't allowed to complain)!

Luckily for you, I utilized our bathroom mirror and took some completely unflattering pictures of myself...I hope you appreciate the effort!

In baby news, Abby grew and she's officially the size of a Squash!  I wonder if she's a Spaghetti Squash...I love those...yum!  This week's email from The Bump said, "Get ready for some more kicks and jabs to the ribs."  Oh trust me, I'm ready...and I've determined that it's one of her friendly ways of saying, "hi Mommmmm!!!  I'm still heeeeere!!!"

Just a guess...but whatever she's trying to say in there, I love it!

Here's a look at her growth (and mine) this week.

The Bump Report: Week 28

Time is flying...the Giants won the World Series...Abby is moving around like a mini-maniac in my belly (I'm convinced she's on a mission to turn my innie belly button into an outie)...and it's officially time to focus on a new sport and my first love - Basketball.

You see, now that the Giants have taken care of business it's time to dedicate my TV viewing time to the Golden State Warriors...luckily, my child size Warriors zip-up hoodie still fits...we'll see how long that lasts (probably until Abby transforms into something other than an Eggplant!!!).

Nothing new to report in Bump land.  I think we'll be making some progress in the nursery this weekend by setting up the crib, so stay tuned for that.

Until then, heeeeeeeeeere's Abby!

The Bump Report: Week 27

First and foremost, let's start this update on the right note...

Week 27
Now that we've gotten that taken care of, I can update you on my Bump.  I have some big news to share with you this week!

The Bump informed me that I've officially entered the Third Trimester!!!

And while I know this is quite possibly the most feared trimester (due to the rapidly growing belly, swollen limbs and reality that life is about to change FOREVER), I'm quite excited about it!   It could have something to do with the fact that I'm still feeling pretty darn great...or the fact that I'm way more excited than I am stressed...but either way, I think it's a milestone worth noting.

The email also said, "
Got a sudden pain in your rear? That's just baby, settling into place for her upcoming debut. Her head might be pressing on your sciatic nerve, which can cause pain and numbness down the backs of your legs."  Eek!  Luckily I haven't experienced any of that yet, but we'll see how long my positivity lasts through this final Trimester (I'm sure all you Moms out there are thinking to yourselves, "Just you wait, crazy woman...you have no idea what your body's about to go through!")...

Oh, and shockingly enough, Abby is still the size of an Eggplant...apparently about a two pound Eggplant.  It's amazing how visible her movements are now!  Last night while sitting on the couch watching the Giants WHOOP on the Rangers, Abby was showing off for Mommy and Daddy...doing flips, punching Mommy, etc...and you could see her various limbs protruding from my belly - CRAZY!!!  There's really a little baby in there!

Question for you guys: What were the biggest challenges you faced during your Third Trimester?  (so far my biggest challenge has been putting on shoes while standing up and attempting to balance on one leg all at the same time!)

Here are a few more pics that were taken first thing this morning (hence the no makeup and sleepy eyes).  And one more thing...GO GIANTS!

The Bump Report: Week 26

For those of you who have been living under a rock (or who could care less about Baseball), something big is happening in San Francisco...

The Giants are ONE WIN away from being in the World Series.  And for those of you who don't know what that means...well...I just don't know what to say to you, but I suppose I'll let it slide considering this isn't categorized as a "sports-focused" blog.

Anyway...if you've been following 7x7xMommy you know how devoted Travis and I have been to the Giants.  That being said, for all you LONG-time devoted fans out there, I'll be the first to admit that I've been a bit of a bandwagon-jumper since moving to San Francisco - but hey, at least I have the SPIRIT!!!

If you haven't been following or if you've missed some of my most recent posts, then I highly recommend checking out this video {Click Here}.  I think it'll help to explain a few things...

I just wanted to spell all this out before posting our pictures for Week 26 - there is a reason why I'm wearing the "outfit" I am.  We took these pictures right in the middle of watching Game 4 of the Giants vs. Phillies series last night.

And thanks (in part) to our spirited couch-cheering and obviously overdone Giants paraphernalia, they won (yes, we're taking some of the credit...without wacky fans like us, I'm pretty sure the Giants wouldn't be quite as amazing...)!

In honor of Game 5 which is taking place TODAY at 4:57pm PST, please enjoy the following pictures...

Week 26 - GO GIANTS

Week 26
Go Giants!  Even the Pandas were showing their spirit!
In baby Abby news, she's still the size of an Eggplant, she's flipping and flopping all over like it's her job (which we love!), and she's still allowing her Mommy to walk 5 miles a day without too much discomfort (the only change has been an increase in bathroom breaks...).

She's also becoming "Daddy's Little Princess" at a VERY young age...check out what Abby gave her Daddy for his birthday last weekend. I wish I could have a pair of matching slippers!

She's going to have him wrapped around her little finger in no time...

I'm Totally Slacking...Week 25

Trust me...

I'll be the first to admit when I'm slacking...and right now, I'm completely slacking.  Friends and family have been emailing me saying, "Where was The Bump Report for Week 25!?!"

And I must say, while their questions make me happy because that means people are actually keeping up with my blog, it also means I'm being held accountable - SHEESH!  :)

But the truth is simple -  we never even got around to taking pictures for Week 25 (shocking for those of you who know how diligent Travis and I are about taking pictures regularly).  More than that, I never even found the motivation to WRITE about much of anything last week...well, there were a couple posts, but I can't say they were my best posts of all time (this one included)...

Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know that I'm extremely aware that I've been MIA...more than that, I am committed to stepping it up this week.

For those of you who are curious, Abby has finally graduated from her role as a Papaya - she is officially the size of an Eggplant!  Here's a little visual The Bump sent along...so helpful, right?

Long story short, please stay tuned for this week's Bump Report for Week 26...I PROMISE to have pictures up this time!

The Bump Report: Week 24

I'm super disappointed...Abby is still the size of a Papaya.  If you read last week's update, you'll understand why I find this so disheartening.

And like The Bump, I don't have any special updates to report either...I'm still feeling great for the most part, still growing and showing, and still looking so very forward to meeting our baby girl.

Also, I've already posted these pictures this week but I didn't feel like taking more after over-indulging in Indian food last night (shout out to Shalimar!  If you haven't been, GO!).

Happy 6 Months, Abby - I hope you're having fun swimming around in there!!!

The Bump Report: Week 23

It's hard to believe how quickly our little fetus is growing up...it seems like just yesterday that Abby was the size of an orange...ohhhh memories...

And apparently she's losing track of time as well because according to The Bump's report this morning, she's still the size of a Papaya (which is exactly how big she was last week).  Didn't she get the memo that she's supposed to get bigger every week? What a slacker!

It makes me wonder if they're just running out of fruits to compare her to.  It also makes me wonder how I'm getting bigger if she's not...it would make me feel much better if next week the report says, "Your baby is now the size of a Pumpkin."  If she's still a Papaya, I'm going to have to issue a complaint to The Bump - the least they could have done was to call her a "Small Papaya" last week and a "Large Papaya" this week...is that so hard?

Oh well...it is what it is and apparently it's a Papaya.

So now for some pictures...

Thanks to the recent hormone explosion which has left me with overly greasy (aka - "glowing") skin and pimples resembling my high school days (thank you, pregnancy), my face will not be featured in this Post.  It may sound ridiculously vain, but I don't care.  We took the pictures early this morning, I was obviously still wearing my "sexy" sweatpants, and I didn't have a stitch of makeup on...I promise you wouldn't have wanted to see my face...

Check out my Large Papaya...

Week 23
Week 23
In other happy news, I still have an "innie" belly button...I'm really afraid of it becoming an "outtie"...is it going to hurt!?! AHHH!!!

Thursday, September 23, 2010

The Bump Report: Week 22

Abby is officially the size of a Papaya...I guess that explains why my belly has been growing at such a rapid rate recently (how's that for some alliteration?).

In other totally awesome news from The Bump, "Real estate within your belly is getting tight, with growing baby leaving little room for your lungs to...well...breathe.  Expect the huffing and puffing to start soon. There's not much room for your belly button, either -- it'll pop out any day now."

Huffing and Puffing?  Check.  All I need to complete this picture is the Three Little Pig's house to blow down...

Seriously though, I'm feeling like a wheezing, pathetic, sloth-like monster!

That may be a bit of an exaggeration because I feel awesome most of the time, but it's the times I feel like I can no longer do the things I used to do (ie - work out every day), that make me feel so incapable.

That's also me just being hard on myself (which I'm very good at) - and it's me dealing with the biggest challenge Pregnancy has presented me with thus far - Setting Realistic Expectations.

For some reason, my crazy mind is telling me that I should still be walking 5 miles a day to and from work AND going to the gym on top of that (like I used to do BB - 'before baby').  And last night after going to the gym, I made it half way home and then was forced to take a cab 5 blocks because my body wouldn't allow me to walk the rest of the way.

Yes. I'll admit it - I'm a little crazy when it comes to pushing myself. What I NEED to work on, though, is listening to my body. And my body (and little baby Abby's body) doesn't want me overdoing it...now we just need my body and my mind to reach some kind of peaceful agreement with one another so that when my body makes a decision, my mind agrees!  Is that so much to ask!?!

Anyone have some advice on how to work on setting more realistic expectations?  And how to stop being so hard on yourself?

I'll keep you posted on my progress with realistic expectations...but for now, you can take a look at how my bump is progressing...

Week 22: Looking Bump-a-licious

"It Smells Like Cookies!" (and other Stretch Mark Products...)

As promised, I have compiled a list of advice and products my Friends, Family and Followers suggested when I asked them for Stretch Mark advice.  Thank you all so much for your input – I loved reading your responses (well, for the most part…) and I hope you enjoy my recap.

While I did have a fair number of responses with product suggestions, I also had a good amount from people who simply believe Stretch Mark Creams are a bunch of baloney…here are some of my favorites…

We had some promising comments…

“They say it's all genetic, I didn't get any stretch marks from pregnancy. Don't think my mom did after 5 kids and triplets either... So don't worry too much!” – Kelli

“I never got pregnancy stretch marks so hopefully that means good genes from the Sandman/Mikkelsen side!” – Aunt Cathy

And some brutally honest comments…

“7x7xMommy is in big trouble...her momma has many "faded" stretch marks to this day...every single one well worth it :)” – Chris (aka – my MOM! Ahh!)

“My OB's 'congrats you're pregnant' take-home sheet says up front:  Don't buy any stretch mark cream! You'll either get them, or you won't; it's genetics and you can't change it. I have them pretty badly from my son, but I was overweight to start out and I think if my skin hadn't already been "stretched" from holding all of me in the first place. Good luck not getting them!” – Sareece

“I thought I went through the whole pregnancy with no new stretch marks (I have some from my teen years), but they aren't noticeable. Anyway, I found them after I had my baby...” - Jessi

“I am pretty sure all the stretch mark creams are gimmicks. It’s a nice little game called, does my skin stretch well? My sister ended up with a stretch mark 1/4" long.  Notice the "a" for singular. I on the other hand look like I got mauled by a ravenous creature. No joke. I wear tankinis now... oh and jack was over 9lbs.... so it’s a fun game similar to Russian roulette!” - Lucy

I had a few people suggest some middle-of-road (and quite logical) solutions...

“ The biggest thing is if you skin is moist it'll stretch better without leaving any marks, and lotion at least 3 times a day is usually pretty successful!” - Megan

“Hey "Bump Girl".....the object of any cream for belly bump is to keep skin soft and supple, even something as simple as Aloe Vera, Vaseline or crank case oil. Well the latter might be a little too messy. But DO keep something on Abby’s casing cause it DOES make a difference! Remember, Grandma knows best.” – Anonymous (aka – my Grandma Sally!)

And then I had some people who suggested actual products that they used and loved (or heard positive things about)…

“I have some scars from an accident a few years back. They were really red and unsightly. A friend recommended I try Bio Oil and it made a huge difference. According to the bottle it's also suitable for stretch marks. I don't know if you can get it in the States, but if you can it's definitely worth a try.” – RamblingsofaSingleton ($7.55 for a 2 oz bottle)

“I didn't get any stretch marks until like less than a week before the girls were born :/ Those creams and stuff are a load of crap- there is NOTHING you can do to prevent stretch marks. It is genetic, but remember you have two parents so you have to look at BOTH sides of you family. Although I don't think Gram got any... not so sure. You can use Bio Oil or like Mederma Stretch Mark Cream to help minimize the look of them after, but that is about as good as it gets. If you want to use them the sooner the better. Sorry!” - Nina ($29.96 for a 5.29 oz bottle)

“I used Tummy Honey Cream on some serious stretch marks and it actually helped a lot. I'm considering getting some more. You can get it on Amazon for a bit cheaper than you can in the stores.” - Aimee ($9.58 for a 4 oz bottle)

“I used a product that I got at Whole Foods called Mother's Special Blend and it was amazing. I didn't get a single stretch mark (I used it from the day we found out until I was 6 weeks post-partum) and it smells like cookies! Okay, maybe that was the pregnant brain speaking, but I definitely would recommend it. It runs about $15 a bottle, and I only went through one bottle.” – Megs3441 ($10.58 for an 8 oz bottle...or $15.99 for an 8 oz bottle at Whole Foods)

“Try Elemis Camellia Oil...It's kind of pricey, but definitely works!” - Kim ($32.80 for a 3.5 oz bottle)

My stance on the whole thing?  And which product did I purchase?

Well, I have to be honest - I was sold at “it smells like cookies!”   As a pregnant woman, I couldn’t help but do a double take at that statement.

I must say...logically I believe stretch marks are a genetic thing and that the most powerful (and most brilliantly marketed) stretch mark creams in the world probably won’t make much of an impact…but in order for me to believe that and purchase nothing, I'd have to be logical.

And I’m not logical right now – I’m PREGNANT!  Sheesh…and last I checked, Pregnant and Logical don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand (what a stereotype, right? Just let me get away with it for the purpose of this post, OK?).

That being said, while I’m pretty sure Vaseline and every day lotion would have the same effect on my potential stretch marks as the overly-priced-illogical-pregnant-woman-targeted stretch mark creams, I couldn’t resist the thought of rubbing something that smells like cookies on my belly.  (that just sounds weird, doesn’t it? Oh well…)

So last weekend, Travis and I walked on over to Whole Foods (yes, everything in San Francisco is within walking distance for me!) and picked up a bottle of Mother’s Special Blend.

Let me put it this way – I bought myself some PEACE OF MIND…for $15.99…and it just so happens to smell like cookies (you weren't lying, Megs3441!!!)…and it acts as a wonderful massage oil!  And even if I end up with Stretch Marks at the end of this process, I’m very happy with my purchase and as my Mom said, every stretch mark will be WELL worth it!

I hope you have found this list helpful and if nothing else, entertaining!  As always, keep the ideas, suggestions and feedback coming – you guys are making this blogging experience extremely worthwhile!
